Association of Journalists of Cabo Verde

The Association of Journalists of Cabo Verde (佛得角記者協會), or AJOC, is Cabo Verde’s journalists’ union. It was founded on November 24, 1990 and is based in the Plateau district of the capital, Praia. Its full Portuguese name, Associação Sindical dos Jornalistas de Cabo Verde, identifies it as a union association. Its members work in the press, radio, television, news agencies and online media, and it advocates for journalists’ professional and social interests nationwide. AJOC is a national partner of the Media Foundation for West Africa, an Accra-based press freedom organization, which describes AJOC as independent of the state, political parties and economic interests. In October 2026, AJOC joined the International Home of Journalists (國際記者之家). The network is run by the All-China Journalists Association (中華全國新聞工作者協會), or ACJA, a Chinese Communist Party-led professional association that serves a key role in implementing press control policies.
