24 Hours

24 Hours (24 часа, 24 Chasa) is a Bulgarian national daily newspaper based in Sofia, founded in 1991 as part of the 168 Chasa press group. Eurotopics describes it as a pioneer of Bulgaria’s free press after the fall of communism, and as one of the first independent outlets to reach mass circulation. It notes that the paper has also been frequently accused of using its influence for political purposes. 24 Hours belonged to Germany’s WAZ media group until 2010. Its new owners then became embroiled in a high-profile ownership dispute and were charged with tax and document fraud. Prosecutors later dropped the case. In May 2026, Maria Nikolaeva Nishandzhieva, who supervises the paper’s website editing team, took part in a China-CEE media roundtable in Dunhuang hosted by the All-China Journalists Association (中華全國新聞工作者協會).
