Activity Type: Official PRC Visit

Taiwan Social Media Influencers Join Yunnan Tour

On August 6-10, 2025, in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, the Taiwan Affairs Office of Yunnan People’s Government (雲南省人民政府台灣事務辦公室) and the Honghe Prefectural Taiwan Affairs Office (紅河州台辦) hosted an official media visit that brought together 17 Taiwanese new media practitioners and 8 mainland journalists in what organizers described as promoting “cross-strait family bonds” (兩岸一家親). The event, “Hearts Connected Across the Strait, Yunnan-Taiwan Together” (第三屆”情牽兩岸·滇台同行”), included visits and cultural activities in several local counties. Official reports cited participants like “new media person” Wu Minwen (吳旻文), who appears nowhere in Taiwan’s media or social media landscape, claiming that the initiative helps “more people on the island understand Honghe.” Another participant cited, Li Xiangming (李湘銘), was quoted as saying that traditional foods they tasted were “cultural symbols carrying deep history.”

Cross-Strait Media Tour of Liaoning

On August 14, 2025, in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots (中華全國台灣同胞聯誼會), a “people’s organization” directly under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, launched its 2025 “Cross-Strait Media Personnel Liaoning Tour” with the Liaoning Provincial Federation of Taiwan Compatriots (遼寧省台灣同胞聯誼會) as host, bringing together over 20 media representatives from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and Hong Kong for a seven-day itinerary. According to Yang Yizhou (楊毅周), vice chairman of the federation, participants visited historical sites including the September 18 Historical Museum (九一八歷史博物館), commemorating Japan’s 1931 invasion of Manchuria, and the Memorial to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (抗美援朝紀念館), dedicated to China’s intervention in the Korean War in October 1950. According to state media sources, Taiwanese businesspeople in Liaoning were also interviewed during the tour, which leaders said conveyed “positive energy” in cross-strait exchanges — a reference to a phrase Xi Jinping has used to signal non-critical media coverage in line with CCP agendas. A full list of participants was not given in media reports on the tour, but coverage from Phoenix Satellite TV indicated that social media influencers from Taiwan were present on the tour. One supposed influencer mentioned prominently in related reports was Lee Tung-en (李東恩), who does not appear in Taiwanese news reports or other sources outside the PRC. Another participant, identified as “veteran Taiwanese broadcast journalist Fan Qiwei (樊奇為), likewise appears only in PRC news reports related to cross-straits ties — and in 2022 was mentioned in propaganda reports along with his wife as “Tianjin’s most beautiful family.”

CCP Official Meets Polish Media Association Head

On October 22, 2024, in Beijing, Chen Zhou (陈洲), Vice-minister of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee (中共中央对外联络部), in charge of fostering and maintaining relations with foreign organizations and political parties in China’s interests, met with Marek Traczyk, Chairman of the Polish Media Association (Stowarzyszenia Polskich Mediów). Chen praised Traczyk’s efforts in promoting China-Poland cooperation and “Chinese culture in Poland,” expressing willingness to “actively promote bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges as well as media cooperation through inter-party channels.” Traczyk, also President of the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce, was quoted in the official Chinese source as pledging in distinctly Chinese terms to continue promoting cooperation in “media, education, economy, trade, sports, tourism and sub-national areas” to “promote people-to-people bonds” (民心相通) — standard diplomatic terminology suggesting soft power objectives rather than independent media collaboration.

Cameroon Media Delegation Visits China

A nine-person delegation of Cameroon’s mainstream media executives visited Beijing, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou from July 2-10, 2017, at the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (中國人民外交學會). The delegation was led by Marie Claire Nana, general manager of SOPECAM and publisher of Cameroon Tribune, and included representatives from Cameroon National Radio and Television, Canal 2 Television, Action newspaper, and the Economic Daily. During their visit, the delegation met with officials from China’s Foreign Ministry, Xinhua News Agency, and various provincial authorities, as well as visited organizations including the Phoenix International Media Center (鳳凰國際傳媒中心). The visit facilitated exchanges on China-Cameroon relations, media cooperation, and China’s development initiatives.

China Propaganda Chief Meets Mexican Presidential Press Office in Beijing

On September 19, 2012, Liu Yunshan (劉雲山), then Chinese Communist Party Politburo member and head of the Central Propaganda Department (中央宣傳部部長), met with the director of Mexico’s Presidential Press Office at the Great Hall of the People (人民大會堂) in Beijing. According to the official Chinese government report, Liu stated that China-Mexico relations had maintained “good development momentum” (良好發展勢頭) over 40 years of diplomatic relations and expressed desire to “deepen strategic partnership” (深入發展戰略伙伴關係). The Chinese report stated that Liu called for strengthened news media exchanges, particularly in “new media” (新媒體), to allegedly “deepen political mutual trust” (深化政治互信). The Mexican official reportedly agreed that cooperation serves “common interests” (共同利益) and expressed interest in establishing “regular exchange mechanisms” (經常性的交流機制). The meeting included Wang Chen (王晨), director of the State Council Information Office (國務院新聞辦公室), China’s foreign propaganda agency.

Chinese Ambassador Attends Media Forum on PRC Anniversary

On September 18, 2019, the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, under Ambassador Zhu Qingqiao (祝青橋), co-hosted a media forum with the Latin American branch of China Today (今日中國) and the Mexican Senate to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. The event, titled “China-Mexico and China-Latin America Relations in the New Era” (新時代的中墨、中拉關係), gathered over 100 participants including Mexican Senate committee chairs, Foreign Ministry officials, and media executives from both countries. Ambassador Zhu highlighted China’s transformation over 70 years from a “poor agricultural nation” to the world’s second-largest economy and from an “isolated and conservative country” to an active participant in global governance, according to the Chinese Embassy. Mexican officials praised China’s development achievements and emphasized shared interests as developing nations, expressing Mexico’s commitment to prioritizing relations with China and participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (一帶一路). The forum featured discussions on objective bilateral reporting and strengthening media cooperation, with live broadcasts on Mexican Parliament TV and China Today‘s Spanish Facebook account.
