Chinese Ambassador Gives Interview to Estonian Media

On December 19, 2024, the Chinese Ambassador to Estonia gave an interview to Postimees, one of the country’s largest daily newspapers. Xi Pens article for Italian Media

On March 20, 2019, Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) published a signed article titled “East Meets West — A New Chapter of Sino-Italian Friendship” (東西交匯 續寫中意友誼新篇章) in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. The placement of the article corresponded with his state visit to Italy at the invitation of President Sergio Mattarella. In the article, Xi emphasized the deep historical connections between Chinese and Italian civilizations as “stellar examples of Eastern and Western civilizations” (東西方文明的傑出代表), tracing the relationship back over 2,000 years to the ancient Silk Road that connected China and ancient Rome. He highlighted that diplomatic relations were established in 1970, with 2020 marking the 50th anniversary. The article particularly focused on advancing Belt and Road cooperation, proposing to align the Belt and Road Initiative with Italy’s plans to develop its northern ports. Xi also emphasized cultural exchanges, recounting how a Chinese professor spent 18 years translating Dante’s Divine Comedy — and referenced Italian Sinologists who he said had built bridges between Europe and China. The visit was strategically significant as Italy officially became the first G7 nation to join China’s Belt and Road Initiative, signing a memorandum of understanding during Xi’s visit on March 23, 2019.

Xi Pens Article for German Newspaper

On July 5, 2017, the German newspaper Die Welt published a signed article by Xi Jinping (習近平) called “To Make the World a Better Place” (共同促進世界更加美好) ahead of the Chinese leader’s state visit to Germany. The article coincided with the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations established in 1972 between the two countries. Xi framed the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations as a success story, highlighting the elevation to a “comprehensive strategic partnership” during his 2014 visit. He emphasized expanding cooperation mechanisms (including over 70 dialogue platforms), growing bilateral trade (170 billion Euros in 2016, with China becoming Germany’s largest trading partner for the first time), and deepening people-to-people exchanges.

China Gives Journalists Tour of Xinjiang Exhibition During China-Central Asia Forum

On November 5, 2025, delegates including scores of unnamed journalists from Central Asia attended the 12th China-Central Asia Cooperation Forum in Xinjiang, where they were taken on a tour of an exhibition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Among the participants was Jawad Ali (جواد علي) (乔一), a correspondent for Al Mayadeen TV in Lebanon, who reported from the event expressing interest in covering more Xinjiang news. This represents a typical example of China’s external propaganda strategy of inviting foreign journalists on state-organized, all-expenses-paid visits to Xinjiang—a region facing significant international scrutiny over human rights issues. Xi Jinping Article Published in Senegal Media

On July 20, 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) published a signed article titled “China and Senegal Stand United” in Senegal’s Le Soleil newspaper ahead of his state visit, promoting Belt and Road Initiative cooperation and deeper China-Africa ties. The piece emphasized shared development goals, infrastructure partnerships, and mutual support on international issues, while invoking “historical friendship” dating back to the diplomatic relations established in 1971, although those ties were suspended from 1996 to 2005 when Senegal recognized Taiwan. During Xi’s visit, Senegal became the first West African country to join China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

On May 7, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping published a signed article in Senegal’s Le Soleil newspaper ahead of his state visit to Russia for the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War, the term Russia uses for World War II. Originally published by Xinhua, the piece called on the international community to preserve a “correct view” of World War II history and safeguard the post-war international order. Xi emphasized China and the Soviet Union’s “decisive contributions” to defeating fascism, defended the UN-centered international system, and advocated for “genuine multilateralism” based on dialogue rather than confrontation. The article warned that any attempt to “distort” wartime history or “tarnish” China’s contributions was “doomed to failure.”

SMG Co-hosts 2024 ENEX General Assembly

The 31st ENEX General Assembly convened in Shanghai on September 26, 2024, co-hosted by the European News Exchange (ENEX) and the Shanghai Media Group (上海廣播電視台), or SMG, and organized by SMG International (上海文廣國際傳播中心). SMG International is Shanghai’s local international communication center (國際傳播中心), or ICC, part of Xi Jinping’s push to bring regional media groups into the larger project of national propaganda directed overseas. According to Chinese media, more than 70 delegates from 17 countries and regions gathered for the ENEX General Assembly to discuss the future of media development and transnational cooperation. In his opening remarks, the President of SMG said that global media need more cooperation and that they must “share factual news” (我们需要共享新闻事实) and “jointly capture objective and truthful international news” (共同捕捉客观真实的国际新闻). Far from calls to professionalism, as they might seem, these remarks reference the official view of China’s leadership, which holds that global public opinion is imbalanced against China — and that this state of affairs requires corrective measures. According to ENEX, the discussions centered on challenges facing the media sector, particularly the expanding impact of artificial intelligence and the complexities of covering international conflicts. SMG states that its mission is to build “the best practice ground for ‘Xi Jinping Thought on Culture’” — a reference to the media-related aspects of the CCP leader’s central political ideology — while also “disseminating public opinion and culture.”

China and Uganda Launch Audiovisual Initiative

The Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau (北京市廣播電視局), under the local city leadership of the CCP, and Uganda’s Vision Group jointly hosted the “Love Beijing Night” cultural exchange event in Kampala on June 27, 2025. Also launched at the event was a new program for the distribution of Chinese television dramas called “2025 ‘LOVE Beijing’ Audiovisual Arts International Communication Initiative Africa” (2025年’LOVE北京’視聽文藝國際傳播行動·非洲). Under the terms of the project, Vision Group will broadcast a series of Chinese television dramas, including Six Sisters (六姊妹), a family drama, alongside TV shows such as Minning Town (山海情), a series about a community in China’s arid northwest that promotes the Party’s anti-poverty campaign. Chinese state media reported that the programming aimed to “deepen China-Africa audiovisual cooperation” (深化中非視聽合作). The initiative also established dedicated audiovisual content zones on the African mobile app Scooper News, featuring an English-language “Beijing Broadcasting Service Package” that runs documentaries and short videos. Vision Group CEO said that  the programming would “open a window for Ugandan audiences to see China,” while Chinese officials emphasized the shows demonstrate Chinese “family and national sentiments” to African viewers.

Chinese Ambassador Interviewed by Swedish Media

On June 2, 2025, the Chinese Ambassador to Sweden Cui Aimin (崔爱民) was interviewed by the Swedish online media outlet NewsVoice to commemorate the 75th anniversary of China-Sweden diplomatic relations. In the interview, the ambassador promoted bilateral cooperation in green technology and trade, defended China’s response to US tariffs, and encouraged Sweden to join the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and BRICS cooperation mechanisms. He also said that “embracing China is embracing opportunities” and characterized both China and the EU as “victims” of US tariffs. Echoing China’s official position that his country practices “whole-process democracy” (全过程民主), Cui told the outlet that “each country’s democracy has its own features.”
