Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation

The Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation (紅溪禮示大學孔子學院), located at Angeles University Foundation — a private Roman Catholic non-stock, non-profit educational institution run by lay persons in Angeles City, Central Luzon — was established in October 2009 and opened formally in January 2010. It is jointly operated by Fujian Normal University (福建師範大學) in China and Angeles University Foundation. Its opening ceremony was attended by then-Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, then-Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jianchao (劉建超), and then-Hanban (漢辦) Director General Xu Lin (許琳) — Hanban being the Chinese government body, formally subordinate to the Ministry of Education, that administered the global Confucius Institute network before its 2020 rebranding as the Chinese International Chinese Education Foundation (中國國際中文教育基金會). CI-AUF describes itself as the only Confucius Institute in the Philippines to have received the “Global Advanced Confucius Institute” designation three times.
