Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil

Brazil, formally the Federative Republic of Brazil, is South America’s largest state, governed under a constitution promulgated in 1988. China and Brazil established diplomatic relations on August 15, 1974, and Brazil became the first Latin American country to enter a “comprehensive strategic partnership” with Beijing. Media ties run through Brazil’s state broadcaster: Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) signed a content-sharing agreement with China Media Group in 2019, and in April 2023, EBC and Xinhua signed a separate agreement to exchange text and images at no cost, part of a broader package signed during President Lula’s state visit to Beijing. In July 2026, Brazil became a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization.
