The mission’s origins trace to the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and Afghanistan on January 20, 1955, when the Kingdom of Afghanistan under King Mohammed Zahir Shah recognized the People’s Republic of China, making Afghanistan one of the early nations in South Asia to establish diplomatic relations with Beijing during the post-Korean War period. Despite the various political transitions Afghanistan has undergone, China has maintained a continuous diplomatic presence in the country. The embassy is currently located in Kabul, Afghanistan, focusing on economic cooperation and regional stability initiatives, particularly through the Belt and Road Initiative and Afghanistan’s potential role in connecting Central and South Asia.
The Office of Social Communication and Government Spokesperson is Mexico’s presidential communications agency, responsible for managing the government’s public messaging, media relations, and official information dissemination. Operating under the Office of the Presidency (Oficina de la Presidencia de la República), it coordinates the administration’s communications strategy, handles press conferences, issues official statements, and maintains relations with national and international media. Formed in 2001 through a merger of Shanghai’s People’s Radio Station, East Radio Shanghai, Shanghai Television, and Oriental Television, SMG operates a comprehensive portfolio including Dragon Television, multiple specialized channels, and radio stations. The group launched China’s second English-language news channel, International Channel Shanghai (ICS), in 2008. SMG owns Yicai Global (formerly China Business Network), which received a $193.5 million investment from Alibaba Group in 2015 for a 30 percent stake. In 2020, the U.S. State Department designated Yicai Global as a foreign mission of the Chinese government. SMG has partnerships with Disney for film development and produces content across news, entertainment, sports, and financial programming, spanning television, radio, and digital platforms.
Established on May 11, 2024, the Nanning International Communication Center was unveiled simultaneously with the city’s convergent media center. The international communication center aims to strengthen cooperation with central media organizations, including Xinhua News Agency, China Daily, and China News Service. It focuses on building a multi-layered international communication platform centered on overseas communication matrix development, foreign cultural exchange promotion, and premium content creation. The center is specifically designed to target ASEAN countries and serve as “a new vehicle for external communication and cultural exchange with regional international influence.” This reflects Nanning’s strategic position as China’s closest provincial capital to ASEAN and the permanent host city of the China-ASEAN Expo.
