Realitatea Plus

Realitatea Plus is a Romanian all-news television channel. Launched in 2015, it took over the programming of Realitatea TV, Romania’s first news channel, after Realitatea TV lost its license in 2019. The channel is controlled by the family of Maricel Păcuraru, a businessman described as controversial in ownership records published by Romania’s broadcast regulator, the National Audiovisual Council. Those records show his wife, Daniela Madi Păcuraru, as president and his son, Ionuț Maricel Păcuraru, as vice president of the family foundation in the channel’s ownership structure. The website now lists its owner as PHG Media Invest LLC, registered in Wyoming. The council had refused to approve moving the license-holding company into US ownership, a move the channel’s lawyer said left Daniela Madi Păcuraru as beneficial owner on both sides. The council has repeatedly fined the channel, including for violating impartiality rules. On April 7, 2026, it revoked the channel’s license over unpaid fines, which the channel disputed. Realitatea Plus has continued broadcasting online. In May 2026, its anchor Ana Maria Alessandra Dobra took part in a China-CEE media roundtable in Dunhuang hosted by the All-China Journalists Association (中華全國新聞工作者協會). That was less than two months after the revocation.
