Shenzhen Press Group

The Shenzhen Press Group (深圳報業集團) is a Chinese state-owned media conglomerate formed in 2002 through the merger of the Shenzhen Special Zone Press Group (深圳特區報業集團), a paper founded in 1982 as the official organ of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee, and the Shenzhen Commercial Daily (深圳商報), a business and economy focused paper. As described in their “About Us” page, the group’s mission is to uphold “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era,” the Party’s guiding ideology under Xi Jinping. The group publishes several newspapers and magazines, including the economic newspaper Shenzhen Commercial Daily (深圳商報), the evening newspaper Shenzhen Evening News (深圳晚報), and the English-language Shenzhen Daily. It also manages platforms such as the news app Dute (读特) and the financial platform Duchuang (读创). In 2025, the group announced a three-year plan (2025–2027) to overhaul how it produces news. The plan restructured the group’s organizational model, shifting the large majority of the editorial staff toward online content production to be posted on their news app platforms. It also created a dedicated technology division to build AI tools for content creation.
