Taiwan’s Business Weekly Hit By “Extensive” Cyber Attack
A cyberattack on Taiwan’s financial magazine that paralyzed its websites for a week drew the attention of its overseas owner.

The Republic of China Veteran Journalists Association (中華民國資深記者協會) is a professional organization for senior journalists based in the central city of Taichung. It was established in 2005 by Hung Hsi-ming (洪錫銘), founder of the Taiwan-based Century News (世紀新聞社). According to Hung, nearly 200 members joined ROCVJA when it was founded. In a 2025 Century News report, Hung said that the organization has had “many exchanges” with Chinese official media, such as Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, and the United Front’s China News Service, or CNS. One example is a 2026 media exchange trip to Shanghai and Anhui organized by the CCP’s official All-China Journalists Association (中華全國新聞工作者協會). Hung’s Century News also claims to be a member of CNS’s World Chinese Media Co-Operation Union (世界華文媒體合作聯盟), though the union does not list Century News as a member on its website. Xinhua and the ACJA have referred to the organization as the “Taiwan Chinese Veteran Journalists Association” (台灣中華資深記者會) — removing the title “Republic of China” (中華民國) from the name — an expression of China’s contested claim over Taiwan’s sovereignty.
