China’s Media Toll on Taiwanese Democracy
Official state media warn a popular Taiwanese television host to avoid observing local elections — or risk losing PRC market access.

The Nanjing Municipal People’s Government (南京市人民政府) is the chief administrative body of Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province and a sub-provincial city in the People’s Republic of China. It oversees the day-to-day governance of the city, including economic planning, public services, urban development, and the implementation of national and provincial policy at the local level. As with all levels of government in China, the Municipal People’s Government operates subordinate to and under the leadership of the Nanjing Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (中國共產黨南京市委員會), which sets the political direction and holds ultimate authority over governance in the city. The municipal government also takes part in external propaganda work. In October 2026, it co-hosted the Belt and Road Journalists Forum in Nanjing with the All-China Journalists Association (中華全國新聞工作者協會) and the propaganda office of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee.
