China’s Media Toll on Taiwanese Democracy
Official state media warn a popular Taiwanese television host to avoid observing local elections — or risk losing PRC market access.

Shandong Radio and Television (山東廣播電視台) was formed in 2010 through the merger of three radio and television stations. According to its introduction, its official website, iqilu.com (齊魯網), is the designated platform for publishing Shandong provincial government news releases. Its 2025 annual report highlighted its external propaganda work, such as producing the five-episode documentary Master Yijing (義淨大師), intended to promote China-Malaysia exchange. The broadcaster also operates the Shandong International Communication Center (山東國際傳播中心), which aims to “tell the true and compelling stories” of Shandong. The language echoes “tell China’s story well,” the phrase Xi Jinping introduced in 2013 to enhance external propaganda. In September 2026, it took part in the China-Kazakhstan Media Roundtable in Almaty, co-organized by the All-China Journalists Association (中華全國新聞工作者協會).
