Chinese Embassy in Sweden

The Chinese Embassy in Sweden is the diplomatic mission of the People’s Republic of China in Stockholm, Sweden, established in May 1950. The mission’s origins trace to the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and Sweden in May 1950, when Sweden became one of the first Western countries to recognize the PRC. The embassy has been involved in several controversies, including a September 2018 incident in which Swedish police removed Chinese tourists from a Stockholm hostel where they had no reservation on record, sparking a diplomatic dispute. The embassy also faced criticism for threatening Swedish media over their coverage of detained Hong Kong-Swedish book publisher Gui Minhai (桂民海).
