The Polish Press Agency or PAP was founded in 1918 as the Polish Telegraphic Agency (Polska Agencja Telegraficzna, PAT), making it one of the world’s oldest wire services. Poland’s national news agency produces political, economic, social, and cultural content with headquarters in Warsaw and 24 regional bureaus, employing nearly 500 staff as of 2013. The agency claims its content reaches 96.5 percent of Polish Internet users via online media and reported a turnover of 56.6 million PLN in 2022. Culture Minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz placed PAP into liquidation on December 27, 2023, after President Andrzej Duda vetoed a funding bill, though this action was “not intended to impact PAP’s day-to-day running.” The liquidation was entered into the National Court Register on January 29, 2024.

The Commercial News, launched on December 17, 1993, was Cambodia’s first Chinese-language newspaper following two decades of civil conflict. Founded by Fang Qiaosheng (方僑生), who stated the paper’s mission was to “promote Chinese culture and facilitate business exchange” while “serving the Chinese community wholeheartedly,” the publication aimed to serve Cambodia’s reported 500,000 ethnic Chinese residents. The paper claimed it became “the only surviving and highest-circulation Chinese newspaper” in Cambodia, with approximately 6,000 daily copies. Publishing 12 pages daily, it covered local politics, economics, diplomacy, culture, and news from Greater China. The paper said it served as a “bridge” between the local Chinese community, the Cambodian government, and overseas Chinese. According to archived records, while its print edition continued, the paper’s website (www.thecommercialnews.com) operated from July 2004 until 2010, after which it maintained only a social media presence until July 2018.

Chinese Newspaper in Romania

Chinese Newspaper in Romania was founded in 1999 as Romania’s oldest Chinese-language publication under the Romania Huayang Media Group (羅馬尼亞華揚傳媒集團). This weekly newspaper, published every Friday, covers Romanian local news, culture, Chinese news, economics, society, military observations, international news, and health topics. The publication claims to be “Romania’s largest Chinese-language publication” with “high visibility and influence in Romania’s Chinese community and mainstream society.” The newspaper maintains collaborations with Chinese publications including People’s Daily Overseas Edition (人民日報海外版), Tianjin Evening News (天津晚報), and Hong Kong’s Wen Wei Po (香港文匯報), while also operating digital platforms including the China-Europe Communication Network (中歐通訊網), a WeChat public account, and the Romania Chinese Headlines (羅馬尼亞華人頭條).
