China’s Media Toll on Taiwanese Democracy
Official state media warn a popular Taiwanese television host to avoid observing local elections — or risk losing PRC market access.

The Cangzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (中國共產黨滄州市委員會) is the highest organ of CCP authority in Cangzhou, a prefecture-level port city in Hebei province. As with all municipal-level party committees in China, it sits above the city government in the political hierarchy, and the committee’s Party Secretary outranks the mayor. The committee reports to the Hebei Provincial Committee of the CCP. It oversees all party work in Cangzhou, controls key personnel appointments across government, media and state enterprises, and is responsible for implementing directives from higher party authorities. Its propaganda office (中共滄州市委宣傳部) has described the Cangzhou International Communication Center (滄州市國際傳播中心), launched with Xinhuanet in 2022, as a way of “borrowing a boat to go out to sea” (借船出海) through central media’s overseas resources.
