China Petroleum Daily

Founded in January 1987, China Petroleum Daily (中國石油報) is a national newspaper covering China’s oil and gas industry. The paper is wholly owned by China National Petroleum Corporation (中國石油天然氣集團有限公司), or CNPC, China’s largest state-owned oil and gas company, according to China’s business registry. In a report on a 2024 Lunar New Year event it organized, the paper said it aimed to “tell China’s oil story well” (講好中國石油故事). The phrase echoes “telling China’s story well,” the directive Xi Jinping introduced in 2013 to strengthen external propaganda. In the same report, the paper claimed to operate 11 overseas social media accounts with more than 20.15 million total views. In September 2026, it took part in the China-Kazakhstan Media Roundtable in Almaty, co-organized by the All-China Journalists Association (中華全國新聞工作者協會).
