Ghanaian Times

The Ghanaian Times (加納時報) is an English-language daily newspaper published in Accra by the New Times Corporation, a wholly state-owned enterprise overseen by Ghana’s State Interests and Governance Authority, which replaced the State Enterprises Commission in 2019. The publisher began as the Guinea Press, established by Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, in 1957 as the printing house for his Convention People’s Party. In February 1966, army and police officers overthrew Nkrumah in a military coup, staged while he was abroad en route to China. The new military government later took the publisher over as state property, and in 1971 it was reconstituted as the New Times Corporation. The authority describes the paper as the country’s third most-read daily. In October 2024, the Ghanaian Times published a laudatory feature on the 2024 Belt and Road Journalists Forum in Chongqing, highlighting foreign participants’ praise for Chinese media.
