China’s Media Toll on Taiwanese Democracy
Official state media warn a popular Taiwanese television host to avoid observing local elections — or risk losing PRC market access.

The Guangxi People’s Publishing House (廣西人民出版社) is a state-owned publishing house based in Nanning and a subsidiary of the Guangxi Publishing & Media Group (廣西出版傳媒集團). According to China’s corporate registry, the group is fully owned by Guangxi’s Department of Finance (廣西壯族自治區財政廳). It describes itself as the first publisher established in Guangxi after the establishment of the PRC and has to date published over 20,000 titles. The publishing house’s website also states that the publisher has “stuck to the correct publishing direction, to promote the Party’s theory and line” (始終堅持正確的出版導向,以宣傳黨的理論和路線), a phrase indicating alignment with CCP messaging guidelines. At the 2026 China-ASEAN Urban Media Roundtable, the publisher signed an agreement with the Nanning Media Convergence Center to further cooperate on the promotion of Chinese publications in Southeast Asian countries.
