China’s Media Toll on Taiwanese Democracy
Official state media warn a popular Taiwanese television host to avoid observing local elections — or risk losing PRC market access.
Lijiang Publishing House (灕江出版社), founded in 1980, is a Guilin, Guangxi-based publisher under the Guangxi Publishing & Media Group (廣西出版傳媒集團), which is owned by the Department of Finance of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (廣西壯族自治區財政廳), according to China’s corporate registry website. Its website states that it has been one of China’s major publishers of translated foreign literature since China’s reform and opening, and claims to have copyright trade relations with more than 40 countries and territories. During the 2026 China-ASEAN Urban Media Roundtable, Lijiang Publishing House agreed to cooperate with the Nanning Media Convergence Center (南寧市融媒體中心) to expand its publication footprint overseas, part of a history of collaboration between the two groups that has included the co-production of the radio drama Scattered Red Star (散落的紅星), a story of the 1934 “Battle of Xiang River” (湘江戰役) that honors casualties that happened in the Long March.
