Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão (SBT)

Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão or SBT, owned by Brazilian TV host Silvio Santos, began its broadcasts on August 19, 1981, by airing its own license signing ceremony from the Ministry of Communications in Brasília. Operating as Brazil’s third-largest commercial television network according to recent audience data, SBT stepped into the place of the defunct Tupi network, which operated from 1950 until bankruptcy in 1980. Santos gained licenses to former Tupi channels in São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, and Belém, having already owned TVS Rio de Janeiro channel 11 since 1976. The network broadcasts entertainment programming, including Mexican telenovelas from Televisa, children’s shows through a Disney partnership that ended in August 2018, and news programs. While historically second in Brazilian ratings, SBT now ranks third behind Globo and Record TV, operating eight owned stations and over 90 affiliates nationwide.

Media Chinese International Limited

Media Chinese International Limited, formed in April 2008 and dual-listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Bursa Malaysia, is a Chinese-language media group created by the successful merger of Ming Pao Enterprise Corporation Limited, Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad, and Nanyang Press Holdings Berhad. The company traces its roots to Sin Poh Amalgamated, founded by Aw Boon Haw (胡文虎) in 1941. Its flagship publication in Hong Kong, Ming Pao (明報), established on 20 May 1959, was acquired by Malaysian timber tycoon Tiong Hiew King (張曉卿) in October 1995. Headquartered at the Ming Pao Industrial Centre (明報工業中心) in Hong Kong’s Chai Wan district with another headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, the group is chaired by Ms TIONG Choon (張聰). The company reported 5 daily newspapers in 13 editions with “about 1 million” total daily circulation for 2023/24, including Ming Pao, Sin Chew Daily (星洲日報) from 15 January 1929, and other major papers. Cambodia-China Times

The Cambodia China Times was launched as an online-only digital venture by Phlong Vichet after leaving the Commercial News, not by Ruan Zhiqiang. Vichet, who had worked at Chinese-language newspapers in Cambodia for over a decade, soft-launched the platform in January 2018 to serve the growing Chinese investor and tourist community. The outlet later expanded to include a Khmer-language news application in February 2020. Contrary to earlier claims, no merger occurred with the Commercial News in 2019 – both publications continue to operate independently. The Commercial News (華商日報), founded in 1993 by Pung Kheav Se, chairman of Canadia Bank Group, remains a separate entity. Cambodia China Times has since established cooperation agreements with Chinese media outlets for bilateral media exchange.
