Iran Art Research Institute

The Art Research Institute (پژوهشگاه فرهنگ، هنر و ارتباطات), also known as the Research Institute of Culture, Art and Communication (RICAC), is a government-affiliated research body in Iran established in 1998 under the country’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance (وزارت فرهنگ و ارشاد اسلامی) — the agency that controls access to media on the basis of Iranian religious ethics and political considerations. RICAC’s mandate is to conduct policy-oriented cultural research in support of the ministry’s programs, and it has since 2001 administered Iran’s International Award on Cultural Research, the country’s only festival dedicated exclusively to evaluating research on Iranian culture and art. The institute publishes peer-reviewed journals on culture, communication, and the arts, and conducts national surveys to inform cultural policymaking.

Cinema Organization of Iran

The Cinema Organization of Iran or COI (سازمان سینمای ایران) is a state body operating under Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the agency that controls access to media on the basis of Iranian religious ethics and political considerations. The COI serves as the primary regulatory authority for the Iranian film industry, responsible for issuing production and screening permits for both domestic and international films. Examples of COI has exercising its authority in recent years include the banning of the 2022 family and feminist drama “Leila’s Brothers” after its director brought the film to Cannes without government approval, a decision that led to the film’s director and producer being sentenced to criminal penalties by an Islamic Revolutionary Court in August 2023.

Institute for a Community with Shared Future

The Institute for a Community with Shared Future (人類命運共同體研究院) at Communication University of China (ICSF-CUC) was established in November 2019. The institute says it focuses on promoting the “community of shared future for mankind” concept — a central element of Xi Jinping’s foreign policy discourse that emphasizes state-centered approaches to international cooperation — through communication research and global governance studies.  The institute’s work includes producing research reports, organizing cultural exchange activities, and running a doctoral program in global governance and communication for international students. The institute had established seven overseas research centers and co-founded what it describes as an international academic network with universities across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The institute has organized annual international think tank forums for five years, with its 2025 forum receiving UNESCO  authorization for use of the agency’s logo and association with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

National Research Council of Thailand

The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), was established in 1956, with its administrative functions institutionalized in 1959 through the National Research Council Act. Originally functioning as a government organization equivalent to a department under the Prime Minister’s direct command, NRCT served as the main national agency responsible for research policy and promotion across natural sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. Following Thailand’s research system reform, NRCT was transformed on May 2, 2019 into the primary national funding agency under the newly established Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESRI). The organization now operates as the central body for research funding, national research standards, and knowledge transfer, with headquarters located at 196 Phaholyothin Road, Chatuchak, Bangkok.
