The Problem With Peach
AI anchors and AI-generated dramas are growing rapidly in China. But how far can a generative persona go before the illusion is broken? Meet Peach Fang.

From October 25 to October 31, 2024, a media delegation from Hungary visited the central Chinese region of Hubei. The visit, organized by the Chinese embassy in Hungary, brought together journalists from the online newspaper Magyar Hírlap and the English-language news portal Hungary Today, to tour the region’s hotspots, from cultural exhibitions like the China Bridge Museum to industrial and tech facilities such as the Dongfeng Voyah auto plant. On October 27, the delegation met with the director of the Hubei Provincial Foreign Office, Zhang Xiaomei (章笑梅), who said that the visit was an opportunity for the two countries to deepen ties between the countries, especially around the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Hungary diplomatic relations. During the meeting, the Hungarian delegation’s leader, Magyar Demokrata’s general director Bencsik Dávid, thanked the Chinese official and said that the Hungarian media would work more on conveying the “real voice” and “positive image” of China, phrasing consistent with the Chinese Communist Party’s framing of alleged Western media bias about the country.
