Xinhua Signs Cooperation Agreement with Observatorio de la Política China

On August 7, 2014, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency and the Observatorio de la Política China signed a cooperation agreement in Madrid, allowing both entities to exchange information and analysis and organize joint seminars. The ceremony was presided over by Zhu Bangzao (朱邦造), China’s ambassador to Spain. According to the Observatory, the agreement also supports the circulation of its publications on Chinese politics, including Jiexi Zhongguo (解析中國), a journal of analysis on China, the Taiwan Weekly political newsletter, and the Annual Report on Chinese Politics.

Want Want China Times Media Group Delegation Visits Beijing Daily Group

Want Want Holdings (旺旺集團) and Want Want China Times Media Group (旺旺中時媒體集團) chairman Tsai Eng-meng (蔡衍明) led a delegation to Beijing Daily Group (北京日報報業集團) on July 6, 2016, meeting with Beijing Daily Group president Fu Hua (傅華) and holding a joint working session. The two sides agreed to jointly organize the Second Cross-Strait Media Summit (第二屆兩岸媒體人北京峰會) in Beijing later that year, focusing on cross-strait youth exchange and industrial cooperation. Beijing CCP Committee Secretary and Politburo member Guo Jinlong (郭金龍) separately received the Want Want China Times delegation — including Tsai Eng-meng, former Taichung mayor and Want Want China Times Media Group vice chairman Hu Chih-chiang (胡志強), and Want Want Media Group president Tsai Shao-chung (蔡紹中) — and expressed the Beijing Municipal CCP Committee’s full support for cross-strait media cooperation, urging the two sides to develop the summit into the premier cross-strait media communication platform. At the session, Tsai Eng-meng said Want Want Group was considering establishing a cross-strait youth entrepreneurship and exchange park in Beijing. The visit was reported by Want News, a Want Want China Times subsidiary publication.

Want Want China Times Media Group and Beijing Daily Group Sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement

Want Want China Times Media Group (旺旺中時媒體集團) and Beijing Daily Group (北京日報報業集團) signed a strategic cooperation agreement (戰略合作協議) in late 2014. The agreement established a framework for news exchange and media industry cooperation between the two groups, and provided the organizational basis for the annual Cross-Strait Media Summit (兩岸媒體人北京峰會), a joint media platform the two groups subsequently developed together. The existence of the agreement was reported by The News Lens in 2019, citing China Times coverage of subsequent summit activity.

SBS Australia Signs Deal With Chinese State Broadcaster

SBS Australia struck an agreement with the CCP-run media conglomerate China Media Group (中央广播电视总台), or CMG, in March 2018, to broadcast news bulletins on its SBS World Watch channel, including 30-minute Mandarin-language bulletins from China Central Television (中国中央电视台, CCTV) and 15-minute English-language bulletins from CGTN (中国环球电视网), the broadcaster’s global arm. CMG operates under the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Propaganda Department with the mandate of “propagating the party’s theories, directions, principles and policies” and “telling China’s stories well.” SBS defended the arrangement by stating it clearly identified content sources and would monitor international news services to ensure compliance with its codes of practice, while providing balance through its own locally produced news and SBS Mandarin radio programming. SBS suspended the CGTN and CCTV broadcasts in March 2021 following complaints from Safeguard Defenders alleging the channels had broadcast forced confessions.

London Tech Week Partners with Nouvelles d’Europe

In August 2025, London Tech Week announced a partnership with Nouvelles d’Europe (歐洲時報), designating the Chinese-language newspaper, which is linked to China’s United Front Work Department, as the sole Chinese-language media partner for its 2026 edition. According to Nouvelles d’Europe, the arrangement aims to facilitate exchanges between Chinese enterprises, entrepreneurs, and investors with UK and global markets, and will provide bilingual Chinese-English content alongside dedicated national exhibition spaces for Chinese enterprises at the event. The 2026 edition is also set to launch what the outlet describes as an “Asia-Europe Innovation Corridor” centered on China, to promote cooperation among enterprises, investors, and policymakers.

Chinese Vocational Workshop Launched in Ethiopia

On February 5, 2026, Hunan Biological and Electromechanical Polytechnic College (湖南生物機電職業技術學院) signed a cooperation agreement with Gofa Industrial College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, establishing a “‘Chinese + Vocational Skills’ Yadis Workshop,” according to an announcement on the Chinese institution’s website. The partnership was explicitly framed as “actively responding to the Belt and Road Initiative” and advancing China’s vocational education model abroad. The Chinese representative emphasized “sharing China’s advanced experience” in agricultural technology and vocational methods. The agreement includes teacher exchanges and curriculum development aligned with Chinese technical standards, positioning such partnerships as development solutions for African countries and reflecting broader Chinese public diplomacy efforts to promote its development model in the region.

Chinese Ambassador Visits Icelandic Times Office

On June 13, 2019, Chinese Ambassador Jin Zhijian (金智健) visited Icelandic Times and met with Editor-in-Chief Einar Thorsteinsson and senior staff to discuss future cooperation. Jin introduced China’s economic and social development and bilateral relations with Iceland, praising the magazine’s Chinese edition for providing tourism information that enhanced Chinese tourists’ understanding of Icelandic society, economy, and culture. The ambassador stated that “the Chinese Embassy was willing to strengthen cooperation with Icelandic Times and work together to promote further development of China-Iceland relations.” Thorsteinsson welcomed the ambassador and “expressed his satisfaction with the current cooperation with the Chinese Embassy, and expected more cooperation for the future.” Icelandic Times publishes in English, Icelandic, Chinese, German, and other languages, focusing on Icelandic tourism, culture, trade, and economy.

Xinhua Signs Media Cooperation Agreements with Uruguay

China’s government-run Xinhua News Agency signed two media cooperation agreements on February 3, 2026 with Uruguay’s Presidential Press Office (烏拉圭總統府新聞局) and National Audiovisual Communication Services (烏拉圭國家視聽傳媒服務局) during Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi’s state visit to China. The memorandum of understanding with the Presidential Press Office aims to “jointly promote Global South media think tank cooperation and communication” and advance the “Global South Media Think Tank High-End Forum mechanism” (全球南方媒體智庫高端論壇機制). The news exchange and cooperation agreement with Uruguay’s National Audiovisual Communication Services — which manages Uruguay’s state television, radio, and public media websites — facilitates “pragmatic cooperation” in news product exchange and personnel exchanges. Both agreements were included in the official outcomes list of Orsi’s China visit, representing Beijing’s efforts to build media coordination infrastructure with Latin American governments under the “Global South” framework.

Chinese Consul General in Alexandria Publishes Article on China-Arab Media Cooperation

On December 25, 2021, Chinese Consul General in Alexandria Zhao Liying (赵丽莹) published a signed article titled “Strengthening Media Exchange and Cooperation, Working Together to Build a China-Arab Community with a Shared Future for the New Era” (加强媒体交流合作 携手打造面向新时代的中阿命运共同体) on Egyptian media websites including Al-Ahram Al-Arabi (阿拉伯国民) and Platform News (平台新闻). The article touted the Fifth China-Arab Broadcasting and Television Cooperation Forum, which Zhao praised as a success. The forum was attended by Huang Kunming (黄坤明), member of the Political Bureau of the CCP Central Committee and head of the CCP’s Central Propaganda Department, and Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, both participating via video. The forum adopted a joint declaration announcing cooperation achievements including a co-production between Fujian Broadcasting Group’s Strait TV and Egypt National Television.
