Chongqing Firm Signs TV Programming Deal With Peru’s Willax

In November 2024, Chongqing Jiazuo Media (重慶佳左影視文化傳媒有限公司) signed a “China Time Slot” agreement with Peru’s Willax Televisión to air Spanish-dubbed Chinese productions. The titles include the series Three-Body (三體), a Chinese adaptation of Liu Cixin’s novel The Three-Body Problem, the series Stand or Fall (閃耀的她), and the documentary Once Upon a Bite 2 (風味人間2). The launch was guided by the State Council Information Office (國務院新聞辦公室) and the National Radio and Television Administration (國家廣播電視總局), or NRTA, the State Council’s ministry-level agency regulating China’s radio, television and online video. A co-host for the launch was the propaganda office of the Chongqing CCP Committee, together with the culture committee of Peru’s Congress. On November 14, Xi Jinping promoted the broadcasts in a signed article in El Peruano, Peru’s official government gazette. “China Time Slot” is the Latin American branding of the NRTA’s “TV China Theater” program, which places Chinese content in fixed time slots on foreign channels. Jiazuo set up a Latin American subsidiary in Peru in 2018 under the guidance of Chongqing’s culture commission, and it claims to have opened such slots in more than ten Latin American countries. Its general manager, Zuo Yue (左越), was named to the NRTA’s 2023 leading talent program for international communication. Willax is majority-owned by the business group of Erasmo Jesús Rolando Wong Lu Vega (黃業生), who presides over the association that manages Lima’s Chinese-funded Centro de la Amistad Peruano China (Peruvian-Chinese Friendship Center).
