Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (馬來西亞旅遊業協會), or MATTA, was founded in 1975 and serves as the national umbrella representative body for the travel industry in Malaysia. It works closely with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia and the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, and organizes fairs, seminars, conventions, and workshops to promote the industry and benefit its members. MATTA’s membership comprises over 2,900 local tour and travel organizations as well as overseas affiliations, with state chapters across Malaysia. Its flagship event, the MATTA Fair, is a major biannual consumer travel exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur. In May 2026, MATTA signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sichuan International Communication Center (四川國際傳播中心), or SICC, covering joint promotional activities, tourist referrals, and resource co-development.

China and Greece Hold Media Dialogue Roundtable

On May 21, 2026, the “China–Greece Media Think Tank Dialogue Roundtable” (中希媒體智庫對話圓桌會) was held at the Chinese School of Classical Studies at Athens (CSCSA), an institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (中國社會科學院), inaugurated in Athens on November 28, 2024. The event was co-hosted by the All-China Journalists Association (中華全國新聞工作者協會), or ACJA — which, according to its own constitution, operates as “a national people’s organization of the Chinese press under CCP leadership” — and the CSCSA. The ACJA also plays a critical role for the CCP in enforcing domestic controls on journalists, including mandatory training in the “Marxist View of Journalism” (馬克思主義新聞觀), a framework that prescribes CCP dominance over the press and public opinion. Representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Greece, the ACJA, and multiple Chinese media outlets attended alongside Greek organizations including the Journalists’ Union of Athens Daily Newspapers, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the Greek public broadcaster ERT, and the Chinese-language China–Greece Times (中希時報). Participants discussed expanding joint reporting, exchange programs, a proposed annual China–Greece journalism prize (中希新聞獎), and a shared fact-checking mechanism, while framing journalists as “guardians of truth” in an AI-driven information environment marked by “fake news” and algorithmic bias. The gathering promoted a narrative of “civilizational dialogue” and invoked the Piraeus Port project — a flagship Belt and Road Initiative (一帶一路) investment — as a symbol of bilateral ties, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the China–Greece comprehensive strategic partnership, signed in 2006.

Chinese School of Classical Studies at Athens

The Chinese School of Classical Studies at Athens (Κινεζική Σχολή Κλασικών Σπουδών στην Αθήνα), or CSCSA (中國古典文明研究院), was announced on November 7, 2024, at the first World Conference of Classics in Beijing, an academic summit focused on ancient civilizations, and formally inaugurated in Athens on November 28, 2024. Established by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (中國社會科學院), or CASS, with the Greek Ministry of Culture as primary partner, the CSCSA is registered in Greece as a non-profit legal entity and describes itself as a “non-profit research institution” (非營利性研究機構). The WHOIS record for the CSCSA’s domain lists the registrant as the Chinese Academy of History (中國歷史研究院), a CASS-affiliated body, with a @cass.org.cn contact email, suggesting the institute operates under direct CASS administrative oversight. CSCSA leadership has framed the institute as a vehicle for Xi Jinping’s Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), aiming to “construct an independent Chinese knowledge system” within classical studies. The institute’s activities span archaeological fieldwork in Greece, academic seminars, exhibitions, training programs for young scholars, and a scholarly journal. According to CASS, the CSCSA was established to fulfill understandings previously reached between Chinese and Greek leaders on deepening exchanges and mutual learning between the two civilizations.
