The JoongAng Ilbo

The JoongAng Ilbo (중앙일보), meaning “Central Daily” (中央日報), is one of South Korea’s three largest newspapers and a newspaper of record founded on September 22, 1965, by Samsung Group founder Lee Byung-chul. Originally owned by Samsung until 1999, the Seoul-based daily pioneered horizontal copy layout, topical sections, and specialist investigative reporting teams in Korean journalism. The paper publishes an English edition, Korea JoongAng Daily, and operates international editions across the Americas. As part of JoongAng Group, it owns broadcast station JTBC and cinema chain Megabox. Critics have classified the outlet as conservative, citing its editorial stance.

East West Media Group PLC

East West Media Group PLC identifies itself as Bangladesh’s largest media house and operates as a subsidiary of Bashundhara Group LTD, a property and manufacturing conglomerate run by businessman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan. Since its 2009 founding, the media house has built a portfolio including Bangladesh’s two most widely circulated Bangla newspapers — Bangladesh Pratidin and Kaler Kantho — the English-language Daily Sun, and the bilingual portal banglanews24.com. In August 2025, the Daily Sun engaged with China’s official Xinhua News Agency to form a “Global South Media News Network,” publish research reports, and deepen cooperation through platforms including the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum.

Helsingin Sanomat

Helsingin Sanomat (赫尔辛基日报), abbreviated HS and colloquially known as Hesari, is Finland’s largest subscription newspaper and the Nordic region’s most circulated daily publication, established in 1889 as Päivälehti and operating under its current name since 1905. Headquartered in Helsinki and owned by Sanoma media group, the newspaper claims to serve as Finland’s newspaper of record. The publication positions itself as politically independent and non-aligned since 1932, having previously served as the organ of the Young Finnish Party.

Kathimerini

Kathimerini is a Greek conservative newspaper founded on September 15, 1919, by George A. Vlahos. Based in Athens, this broadsheet maintains a legacy of reliability and prestige alongside a strong digital presence. Originally established as strongly anti-Venizelist, it was later owned by his daughter Helen Vlachos before being acquired by the Alafouzos family in 1988. Kathimerini publishes in both Greek and English, with its English edition distributed exclusively with the International New York Times in Greece and Cyprus. Though historically conservative, the newspaper now represents broader center-right perspectives while featuring columnists from across the political spectrum. The publication also produces various magazines and is published by Nees Kathimerines Ekdoseis Single-Member S.A., incorporating a polyphony of opinions and beliefs in its pages.

Classic Media China Internacional SAC

Classic Media China Internacional, a company mentioned in Chinese state media reports but having only an online presence on Facebook, seems to operate in close alignment with Chinese state actors in distributing Chinese media content — mostly entertainment — across Latin American markets, particularly Peru. In November 2024, Classic Media China Internacional directly collaborated with the National Radio and Television Administration (国家广播电视总局), Chongqing Municipal Propaganda Department (重庆市委宣传部), and Peru’s National Congress Cultural and Heritage Committee to launch the “China Time Slot” and “China Audio-Visual Exhibition Month” in Lima. There is no record of the company prior to 2023. The company’s generqal manager is Katherin Minna.

Euractiv

Euractiv is a European news website focused on EU policies, founded in 1999 by French media publisher Christophe Leclercq and headquartered in Brussels. The outlet, which was acquired by Belgian media company Mediahuis in 2023, covers European politics and policy across eight specialized hubs including energy, agriculture, and technology. According to the outlet, it employs about 50 journalists across multiple European countries and produces content in 11 languages. Euractiv describes itself as covering “policy processes upstream of decisions” without taking sides, though it faced controversy in January 2025 when its editor-in-chief published an opinion piece on Holocaust Memorial Day that Amnesty International condemned as hate speech against Muslim communities. The outlet has also entered into paid arrangements with the Chinese government, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), for content reflecting Chinese state narratives.

Daily Sun

Established in 2010, the Daily Sun is a daily broadsheet and digital platform based in capital city of Dhaka. It offers coverage of national affairs, sports, and entertainment. The outlet publishes in the English and Bengali languages. It is operated by East West Media Group PLC, a Bangladeshi media conglomerate that runs at least seven outlets, including the online newspaper Banglanews24.com. East West is under Bashundhara Group LTD, a manufacturing and real estate conglomerate run by businessman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, whose family faced scrutiny in 2025 owing to its close relationship with the ousted former prime minister Sheik Hasina and allegations of land grabs and embezzlement.

Capital FM

98.4 Capital FM is a Kenyan urban music radio station established in 1996, shortly after the liberalization of Kenyan airwaves, becoming the second FM station after 101.9 Metro FM. Based in Two Rivers mall in Nairobi, the station operates on 98.4 MHz frequency with repeaters across Kenya including Western Kenya (93.0), Nakuru (98.5), Mombasa (98.4), Nyeri (98.5), and Meru (103.9). The station targets middle-class and upper-class audiences with programming that includes hip hop, R&B, rock, neo soul, jazz, and dance music. Capital FM gained international attention when President Barack Obama gave an exclusive one-on-one interview during his July 2015 visit to Kenya, one of only two such radio interviews during that trip. The station serves audiences through traditional broadcasting and online streaming.

Philippine News Agency

The Philippine News Agency (PNA) is the Philippine government’s official web-based newswire service, established on March 1, 1973. Initially operating with teletype machines and typewriters, PNA has evolved into an internet-based news service providing coverage of government policies, activities, and programs. The agency operates with 19 reporters and correspondents in Metro Manila and maintains 16 provincial bureaus that submit content to its central desk in Quezon City around the clock. Under President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration beginning in June 2016, PNA received significant modernization support, including fiber optic connections and equipment upgrades. The agency launched its redesigned website and mobile application on April 24, 2017, resulting in dramatic growth from 11,000 to 4.9 million page views by September 2021. PNA maintains news-sharing agreements with multiple state-owned agencies, including Xinhua (China), Yonhap (South Korea), and TASS (Russia), and participates in the Belt and Road News Alliance, comprising 63 founding members from 35 countries and regions.
