The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh hosted a China-Bangladesh media cooperation seminar on July 8, 2018, with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Zuo (張佐) delivering remarks and Bangladesh Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu serving as chief guest. The seminar brought together executives from major Bangladeshi media outlets including United News of Bangladesh, Daily Naya Diganta, The Independent, The Financial Express, NTV, RTV, and ATN, with over 30 local media organizations and Press Trust of India reporters covering the event. Also participating was Aaj Kaal, an Indian newspaper based in Kolkata. Minister Inu praised the strategic partnership’s development and expressed government support for enhanced media collaboration. Prior to the seminar, Zhang met privately with Inu to discuss bilateral relations and media cooperation.

Visit by People’s Daily Editor to Thai Business Association

In September 2014, Shan Chengbiao (單成彪), deputy editor-in-chief of People’s Daily Online, visited the Thai Chinese New Generation Business Association (泰國華人青年商會) in Bangkok along with several staff members including the People’s Daily Thailand bureau chief Shi Xiaohui (施曉慧). They were received by Li Guixiong (李桂雄), who served as president of the association. Li described People’s Daily and People’s Daily Online as “China’s most important and most influential media” and praised them for “thoroughly taking up their role as mouthpieces of the Party and the people.” The visit was part of broader media engagement efforts by People’s Daily, which serves as the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, to strengthen ties with overseas Chinese business organizations in Thailand.

Media Liaison Office for Wenzhou Opens in Prato

On February 12, 2025, Prato’s “Green Dragon Club” (青龍俱樂部), a local Chinese community center, received a pair of plaques designating it as both an “overseas communication base” and “liaison office” of the Wenzhou International Communication Center (溫州國際傳播中心). This ICC is one of over 70 centers established since 2018 in provinces and cities across China meant to harness local media groups — in coordination with local propaganda offices — to amplify the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to “tell China’s story well” and strengthen its “discourse power” globally. The ceremony was attended by Liu Shenyang (柳深揚), identified as editor-in-chief of the Wenzhou News Media Center (溫州市新聞傳媒中心), a local government-run media office established on June 28, 2023, and described as “a new milestone in the development of [the city’s] news and propaganda work.”

Nordic Chinese Times Signs Deal with People’s Daily

In October 2016, the People’s Daily Overseas Edition (人民日報海外版) signed a cooperation agreement with the Nordic Chinese Times (北歐時報) in Beijing. People’s Daily Editorial Board Member and Overseas Edition Editor-in-Chief Wang Shucheng (王樹成) met with Nordic Chinese Times President He Ru (何儒) to reach what they called a “consensus on in-depth cooperation” (深入合作達成共識). Under the agreement, the Nordic Chinese Times would publish four pages of authorized People’s Daily content in each issue, with distribution centered in Stockholm and reaching across five Nordic countries. The Nordic Chinese Times, founded eight years earlier by the Nordic Chinese Chamber of Commerce (北歐中國商會), claimed it would “tell China’s story well” and “spread China’s voice” (講好中國故事,傳播好中國聲音). Despite positioning itself as a “neutral media” (中立媒體), analysis by the China Media Project found that by 2024, the paper’s “China News” section was sourcing 100 percent of its content from Haiwainet (海外網), the People’s Daily‘s overseas platform.

Xinhua Signs Agreement with ANSA to Launch “Xinhua Italian Service”

Italian news agency ANSA (Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata) and China’s Xinhua News Agency (新華社) signed a collaboration agreement in Rome on March 22, 2019, during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Italy. The agreement established an Italian-language Xinhua news service that ANSA would distribute exclusively through its platforms. Xinhua President Cai Mingzhao (蔡名照), who had served in senior Chinese Communist Party media roles for over two decades, signed the accord with ANSA CEO Stefano De Alessandri. Officials said the service would be “clearly identified and separate from ANSA’s production.” De Alessandri claimed the deal would provide “a broad and systematic information panorama on China” and what he called a “window open on the Chinese system.” The agreement expanded on a 2017 deal between the agencies for news exchange and content collaboration. ANSA terminated the agreement in June 2022.

The association’s board included representatives from major Chinese state media outlets operating in Thailand, including Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, China Radio International, and China Central Television, alongside Thai outlets including Thansettakij , Thai Rath, Channel 7, and Spring News television network.
